Monday through Thursday we’re rocking our meals, workouts, everything in between. Then Friday rolls around and it’s ALL HAIL FREEDOM like we’re teenagers on spring break. If you’re happy and enjoying life, keep at it. But if you ever utter “why no abs?” and are still losing your sh*t on the weekends it’s time to reevaluate.
What do you actually want? Is performance or aesthetics more important than social life? If so, it makes avoiding situations where you’ll sabotage your progress easier. If not, find the middle road and enjoy health without abstaining from brunch.
SCHEDULE YOUR MEALS
Your body doesn’t know the difference between a Monday and a Saturday. Just because your schedule changes doesn’t mean mealtime has to. Know when you’re going to eat, prioritize your Protein+Veggies for the first couple meals and NO MATTER WHAT eat before you head out.
If you’re playing it strict, check out where you’re going (dinner or otherwise) and try to track what your meal will be. If you’re going for moderate, then maybe just relax and aim for your four categories (protein, veggie, starch, fat) without stressing too much. Get a solid workout in that day (NOT a “Dear Body, I have to punish myself for what I shall do to you this evening even though that’s Punishment x 2 and makes no sense” type workout).
THE ROLE OF STRESS
If you are stressed about going out or enjoying social time, then it is time for some reflection. Being social is one of the most impactful markers of longevity – even more than what we eat! So, if you consistently (note: not just for a short-term period) find yourself foregoing time with loved ones in lieu of “hitting your macros” your priorities may be doing you a disservice. P.S. Science shows that the more relaxed and happy we are, the better we digest food. Enjoy yourself. Smile, breathe, CHEW and you may be surprised at how little that off meal affects you.
