MOST people come to me saying some variation of...
"I want to be more consistent."
I'll do more digging on their background and goals and sure enough I usually come across one common denominator - consistency to them is either undefined or WAY out of alignment with their life.
We have this mistaken idea that consistency means:
Whew. I don't even do that every single day! Many of my trainer/nutritionist/coach peers don't do that. And we're doing just fine, I promise.
So, if that's the metric you're comparing 'consistency' to, then no wonder you're struggling.
The FIRST thing you need to do is simpler than you think.
Stop chasing the 'things.'
And start chasing CONSISTENCY itself - no matter what that entails. What do the actions need to be in order for you to be consistent?
IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW INSIGNIFICANT IT FEELS.
What you're doing right now isn't working. Setting ridiculous targets that aren't achievable, so then you don't follow through and then you lose trust in yourself and then you wallow in self pity and then you get angry/motivated and set ANOTHER unrealistic standard STAHP PLZ IM BEGGING YOU.
I'm not trying to lower your standards. I'm trying to adjust your starting point. Because your current starting point is just sabotaging you, and it's legit annoying af to see so many high functioning humans train themselves to think they're lazy when it's their approach that sucks, not them.
These are 3 of my favorite nutrition systems that can create a more flexible mindset around food while creating more consistency overall.
1. Prepare foods you actually enjoy
Stop rolling the dice on unknown, complicated recipes, and include meals/item you know you like.
The "plain chicken & broccoli" mindset is dead. This idea that prepped food can't be fresh and tasty is hereby banished. And if you ave a favorite food deemed "unhealthy" that should be incorporated as well.
2. Schedule 1-3 meals out per week
You're eating out anyway. Why would you expect to stop doing that all of a sudden? (Especially if you enjoy it!)
Knowing it's coming gives you something to look forward to, makes it easier to stick with your planned meals, AND makes eating out even more enjoyable because it's part of the plan!
3. Automate at least one meal per day
It's a helluva time to be alive.
There have never been more prepped options, delivery services, and meal prep companies. Google your city + meal prep and start by ordering enough meals to automate one per day (4-5 meals).
This one is a gamechanger. Remember to include time save from prep and shopping into the total cost if you're frugal like many of my people!
SHOW YOURSELF that your word can be trusted. SHOW YOURSELF that when you say you are going to do something, you do it.
This will change your life in more areas than health. Don't take my word for it though ;)
Let's return to health, together.
