Win Early and Win Often

How to keep motivation going when life takes over, when you hit a plateau or when you just don’t “feel like it."

It's a simple, but memorable principle...

Win early and win often.

Every day when you wake up, you have the power to set the tone of your day. The sooner you set the tone, the easier it is to pick up speed (and more wins along the way).

So start with some easy wins. Things like...

  • Taking 5 deep breaths.
  • Drinking a big glass of water.
  • Making your bed.
  • Doing 10 cat cows.
  • 'Dirt diving' the day.
  • A 5-minute walk.
  • Protein first thing.

These little check marks are the stones that start picking up speed, gathering momentum throughout your day and leading to bigger wins as you go on.

Far too often I hear people tell themselves they aren't consistent. First off, you are - just not in the actions you perceive are helpful.

The habits you want to be consistent in need to be earned just like any proper progression in strength training, nutrition or skill.

You don't start with a heavy back squat in the gym. And you don't start with whatever habit you're thinking is the peak of consistency outside the gym either.

Tomorrow when you wake up, what will be your first 'win'? Get after it!
